Associate Economist Eric Stradley was quoted in the Inside Higher Education article "Friendship's Role in Retention" stating that relationships made in first semesters of school have a far heavier influence on first to second year retention than traditional factors such as a student's academic ability, financial aid or socioeconomic status.
