James Pearce is a Vice President in the Bryan, Texas office of Welch Consulting. Dr. Pearce serves as a consulting and expert witness and supervises economic and statistical research addressing issues in both class action and individual plaintiff litigation. His experience includes econometric analysis of issues in cases involving allegations of discrimination in various employment practices and in cases involving wage and hour disputes. Dr. Pearce has also conducted studies involving discrimination in mortgage lending, real estate, and insurance and in matters involving survey sampling and extrapolation issues. He has also evaluated economic damages in both class action and single plaintiff employment cases.
Dr. Pearce’s research, which includes studies of mortgage markets, illegal immigration, and the effect of firm size on compensation and job security, has been published in the Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Labor Economics, The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, and The Review of Economics and Statistics. He has also conducted contract research for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and for Freddie Mac. Dr. Pearce received his bachelor’s degree from Rice University in 1973 and his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1980. Before joining Welch Consulting, Dr. Pearce was Vice president and Director of Research at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta. Earlier, he served as Vice President and Associate Director of Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Dr. Pearce has also taught courses at Southern Methodist University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
