Linda Waite is Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Chicago, where she holds the Lucy Flower Chair in Urban Sociology. She directs the Center on the Demography and Economics of Aging, and heads a major research project on health and social behavior. Previously she directed the Population Research Center at the RAND Corporation, where she directed a program of federally-funded research on women’s employment, living arrangements, and the family. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Michigan. She teaches graduate courses in demography, the family, and research methods. Waite publishes frequently on health, aging, work and the family, and women’s employment. She is Past President of the Population Association of America, listed in Who’s Who in Economics, and the recipient of a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health.
